1. Eligibility & Parental Account

SootheStories accounts may only be created by an adult aged 18 or over acting as a parent or legal guardian on behalf of their child. By creating an account you confirm you are the child's parent or legal guardian and are authorised to provide their information and consent on their behalf. The child does not independently agree to these terms — you do, in your capacity as their parent or guardian.

2. The Service

SootheStories provides AI-generated personalised bedtime stories for children. Stories are generated using Anthropic Claude and may include audio narration via Fish Audio. The service is provided on an “as available” basis and we do not guarantee uninterrupted access.

3. Subscriptions, Payments & Cancellation

Subscriptions are billed via Stripe. Free trials convert automatically to a paid subscription at the end of the trial period unless cancelled beforehand. The current subscription price is displayed on our pricing page and confirmed at checkout. Our “Founding Family” price may increase in the future for new subscribers, but existing subscribers will be notified of any price change at least 30 days in advance.

Auto-renewal: Subscriptions renew automatically each billing period unless you cancel before the renewal date. You can cancel at any time through your account dashboard. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period — you retain access until then. No partial refunds are provided for mid-period cancellations.

Right to cancel — UK Consumer Contract Regulations 2013: As a consumer entering a distance contract, you have a legal right to cancel within 14 days of purchase. However, because SootheStories provides digital content that you can access immediately, your 7-day free trial serves as your cooling-off period. If you continue into the paid subscription after the trial ends, you expressly request and agree to immediate access to the full service from that point, and you acknowledge that you will lose your right to the 14-day cancellation period under Regulation 29 of the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013. You may still cancel at any time — cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period.

4. Content License

SootheStories retains all rights, title, and interest in the AI-generated story content, illustrations, and audio narrations produced through the service. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-commercial license to use, read, save, print, and privately share the generated stories with your immediate family. You may not resell, redistribute publicly, or use the generated content for any commercial purpose without our prior written permission.

5. Safeguarding

SootheStories is not a mental health service and is not a substitute for professional support. If your child is experiencing significant emotional difficulties, please consult a qualified professional. Our AI is designed to redirect inputs containing potential safety concerns (such as references to self-harm, abuse, or crisis-level distress) toward calm, non-engaging content. If you or your child need urgent support, the following UK resources are available 24 hours a day:

  • Samaritans — call 116 123 (free, 24/7) or visit samaritans.org
  • NHS 111 — call 111 for non-emergency medical advice
  • Childline — call 0800 1111 (free, 24/7, for children and young people) or visit childline.org.uk
  • Shout — text “SHOUT” to 85258 (free, 24/7 crisis text service)

6. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, SootheStories' total liability to you for any claim arising from your use of the service is limited to the total subscription fees you paid to us in the 12 months immediately preceding the event giving rise to the claim. We are not liable for any indirect, consequential, or special damages. Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited under English law.

7. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.

8. Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. For material changes, we will notify you by email at least 30 days before the changes take effect. For non-material changes, the updated terms will be posted on this page with a revised date. Your continued use of the service after the effective date of any changes constitutes your acceptance of the new terms.

9. Account Deletion & Data Retention

When you cancel your subscription or delete your account, your child's story history, generated content, and personal data will be permanently deleted within 30 days. You may request immediate deletion at any time by contacting us. After deletion, story content and associated data cannot be recovered.
